Committee and Coaches

St Neots Hockey Club is run by a voluntary committee with defined roles and responsibilities. They are elected officers of the club at the AGM every year where every paid-up member receives a vote. Please contact them if you have any questions.

How the committee makes its decisions can be found in members' information, where records of committee meetings, AGMs and the annual accounts are published to provide transparency to the membership.

We have a great team of people who lend their expertise by helping.

President is an honorary role in St Neots Hockey Club. Iain has been a member of the club almost as long as its been going!

Iain started his career as a goal keeper for the club, and has represented every Mens side during his playing days. He continues to play Mens 2s and is also a Level 2 umpire, helping out where is needed every Saturday.

I started playing Hockey at age 11 and from 13 was lucky to be coached by 

Val Robinson (for those that don’t know who she is Google it!) and this started my love of the game, I played either at School, College and club level (coming to St Neots in 1995). I coached Junior Hockey at the club from 1997 until two years ago and still coach seniors at the club most weeks . I stopped playing in 1997/98 and began my umpiring career first at club level, then in the East region, then into National league climbing the ladder until I got my National Badge, umpiring in the top women’s league in the country. I also umpired the cup final in 2016 and was lucky enough to umpire various training games for England, GB , Australia, India, Ireland and few others. After retiring two years ago I have now come back to play occasionally as well as umpiring 1 or 2 games per week for the club.

I became Chairman 7 years ago when I was told that (and I think they were somewhat economical with the truth!!) all I had to do was chair meetings, and sort the AGM. Well I can assure you that there’s a lot more to it than that! However I try to keep the club on track and am always willing to take ideas on board.

Tanya

With a parent as the chairperson of the club, I was a glorified PA. I thought that didn’t have the same ring to it, and vice-chair did. I’m the one that will know the drama in the club and the plans for the future. You’ll find me on the edge of the pitch, whether that be coaching, umpiring, or playing (all the fun stuff), whilst running away and dodging everything to do with Teamo and GMS.

Lizzy

I joined the club four years ago through Back to Hockey programme and quickly rediscovered my love of the game. As vice chair I enjoy supporting the club and helping it to grow. I really enjoy encouraging new and existing members to get involved in the club, I also love keeping things organised, and depending on who you ask, being just a little bit bossy (usually on the sideline!).

I’ve not played hockey since my school days, these days I’m found on the sidelines rather than on the pitch. My family are all involved in the sport, and through supporting them I became part of the club community and wanted to contribute in a different way.

As Club Secretary, I help keep things organised behind the scenes and support the smooth running of the club. While I’m still learning some of the finer points of the game and occasionally need help understanding a rule or two, I enjoy watching matches, supporting our teams, and getting to know the wider hockey community.

Being part of the committee has shown me how much dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm go into making it a welcoming place for players of all ages and abilities, and I’m proud to play a small part in that.

I have been at the club since 2018, I joined the academy at 11 years old and was playing for the U12s and 14s, after very unsuccessful stints as an outfielder I embraced my place between the posts as a Goalkeeper. I spent 3 seasons as the Mens 2s goalkeeper, one of which I led a promotion charge as captain on which we narrowly missed out on in the final game.

From then onwards I have been part of the 1st team, this being my third year as 1st team GK, and 2nd as Mens Club Captain.

I started playing hockey properly during university in Wales—where I quickly got used to those epic 3-hour away games. I joined St Neots Hockey Club back in 2019 and have loved playing across the 2s and now 1s.

​Back in my uni days, you’d usually find me up front—and I still hold a happy record of finishing as top scorer for both the 1s and 2s in the same season. Since joining St Neots, however, I’ve settled into a happy role firmly in defence.

​My biggest goal this season is to keep building a friendly, connected ladies side where everyone across all of our teams gets to know and support each other.

​I’m looking forward to my second season as Women's Club Captain—and to see everyone push hard, support one another, and have fun on and off the pitch!

Well no one else would take on the job, so here we are! Someone thought as I was an accountant I would be good at looking after the money side of things. I try to keep the club solvent and making sure we pay the bills on time. 

Alec had 2 children come through the club, and both have moved on to university. Alec works hard behind the scenes to get our games scheduled and dealing with the pitch hire.

I've been part of St Neots Hockey Club for more than 20 years and have represented pretty much every level of the club along the way. I am now the club's Umpire Liaison, which means spending a good chunk of every week persuading, cajoling and occasionally begging people to pick up a whistle so that all of our home fixtures can go ahead. Thankfully, we have an incredible group of dedicated umpires who regularly give up their weekends to officiate, often umpiring two or even three matches before or after playing themselves.

As for my own hockey, I currently play in the M2s, but these days I seem to spend almost as much time on the sidelines as I do on the pitch, doing my bit to keep the local physiotherapists in business through a seemingly endless stream of injuries. I like to think it's all part of my commitment to supporting local businesses.

I love a good bit of stash as much as any other hockey player, so see me for all your kit needs from playing shirts to bucket hats and much more. Ask me all the questions, and requests about numbers you have and will we see what we can do. Any ideas for new kit let me know. 

Owen has been a member of St Neots Hockey Club since 2001, joining just so he could be part of the Saturday dinner conversation with the rest of his family. Apart from a few years at university, a brief flirt with community radio and failed media career, he has featured in every season since that time. After a long career with the Men’s 1st team, where he once worried defences with his optimistic attacking skills and terrified his own defence with his debatable defensive abilities, he took over as 2nd team captain. A former Men’s 1s captain and club secretary, Owen now takes a relaxed role, sitting on his phone updating the club’s social media accounts and writing the weekly match reports for the local papers.

As Welfare & Safeguarding Officer, I’m here to help make sure everyone at St Neots Hockey Club feels safe, supported and included. Whether it’s a concern, a question or you just need someone to talk to, I’m always happy to listen.
